How it works

From a form to a walk, in two emails.

Below is everything that happens between sending a request and meeting your greeter.

You send a request

Who you are, when you are here, how many of you there are, which language, and what you are curious about. You get an automatic confirmation in your own language straight away.

We find you a greeter

We look for a greeter who is free on the date you want and speaks your language. The colleague who will walk with you gets in touch by email. If nobody is available, we let you know as soon as possible.

You meet

We expect you at the agreed place, day and time.

What a greet is not

Not a standard tour.
Your greeter is an enthusiast, not a licensed guide. They will not have every date to hand, and may well have an idiosyncratic view of the city.
Not a fixed route.
Neither the length nor the route is fixed. We adapt to what you expect.
No costs, no tips.
There are no costs, and we may not accept personal tips. We will not say no to a cup of coffee. A small donation to the organisation is welcome, but absolutely not required.
No large groups.
We do not walk with large groups, and we will not split a party larger than six to stay within the maximum. Larger groups can go to the tourist office.

Practical matters

What to bring

Sturdy shoes, so you can walk the cobbles comfortably. No tickets, no printouts.

If it rains

Bring an umbrella. We will agree together how to fill in the walk.

Access and mobility

The old centre is full of cobblestones. Say in the form if you are less mobile, and we will take it into account.

Languages

For now we have colleagues who speak Dutch, English, German, French and Limburgish.

How far ahead to ask

A week is comfortable, three days often still works, tomorrow morning is a gamble. Greeters have diaries of their own, of course.

If plans change

Exceptional circumstances can always make cancelling necessary. If so, let us know straight away. In every other case we expect you at the agreed place and time.
